Extreme Performance Gear Lube Quicksilver Extreme Performance Gear Lube was designed for outboard and sterndrive racing applications. This gear lube provides maximum protection against: Water intrusion – advanced emulsifiers protect gears if water enters the gear housing Wear – tackifiers and pressure additives improve oil film adhesion and protect against excessive wear Horsepower loss – prevents horsepower loss and won't break down when gears reach high temperatures Quicksilver recommends the gear lube be changed at least once per year (prior to storage) or every 100 hours of operation. See owner's manual for specific recommendations. Recommended for use in high‑performance gearcases used in marine, powersports, and motorsports applications.

I have searched for a spec sheet, however no one seems to know of one for the Evinrude #778879 HPF PRO Gear Oil. Can anyone validate that this product is API Service Category GL-4 Compliant? Thanks __________________ Marcos Huey Moderator Registered: 1208733337 Posts: 13, 972 Posted 1337575453 #2 Hi, no I have never seen a "spec sheet" for this oil and no I would not know if it meets that category but a simple answer to it seems not a simple quesiton is this is the best oil to use in any E-TEC gearbox and we use it to fill and service all brands of outboards in the workshop. Why do you want to know? Cheers, Huey. seahorse Registered: 1208572682 Posts: 8, 802 Posted 1337575990 #3 HPF-Pro gear oil and the former HPF-XR are propriatery formulas specifically engineered for E-TEC engines.

The manual for my 2006 60 HP Etec calls for Ultra HPF gearcase lube. I cannot seem to find this product on the market and was wondering what I could substitute. The word "Ultra" is missing from the oils I have found. I still have some OMC HiVis lube left from an older 60HP Johnson. Thanks seahorse Moderator Registered: 1208572682 Posts: 8, 802 Posted 1440487968 #2 The current lower unit oil to use is HPF-Pro available at your dealer. The Ultra-HPF was replaced years ago with this better oil. __________________... possessing more tools than talent! My sarcasm and my sincerity sound surprisingly similar! Industry leaders in lubrication developed testing criteria for this marine four-stroke oil. These include bench tests for viscosity, corrosion, filter plugging, foaming and aeration. In addition, the oil must successfully pass a 100-hour general performance engine test. Once these oils have been tested by a sanctioned test laboratory, NMMA will issue licenses for the oil's formulation and registers approved brands. FC-W™ lubricants have demonstrated the necessary performance and quality needed need in today's high performance four-stroke engines. The next time you are purchasing four-stroke oil for your marine engine, look for the FC-W™ trademark
After you put it up, the water evaporates, leaving the oil to run down and out the weep holes and the exhaust hub. B est check first that the oil IN the gear housing is O. K. Simply crack the lower screw and let a little out. It should be light to medium brown in color, and at least translucent.. Lighter, opaque and creamy colored indicates water intrusion. Inky black & burnt odor - - it's past due for a change. 100% water, bubbly grey-black gleep, under pressure, metallic colors, bad odors: all indicate serious problems. Unsure? the Mastertech! At any rate, change the oil every 50 running hours using a high quality lube such as Evinrude-Johnson Ultra HPF or Mercury Premium Gear Lube and you shouldn't have any problems. It should be filled from the bottom until it reaches the vent hole above. Plug the vent hole back up to create an airlock, which lets you remove the fill device and replace the drain plug (quickly) without losing too much oil. O perating in fishing waters? Good idea to remove the propeller occasionally and check for monofilament fishline around the propshaft.

47 years old and still running, that is fantastic and a testament to the durability of those era engines. Over the years, new products supersede older ones as changes and improvements are incorporated. Today Type A grease is Evinrude Triple Guard grease. Type C gear oil is now called Premium Blend and is only recommended for the electric shift gearcases that were used back then. If your motor has the manual shift lower unit, then use the HPF- Pro or HPF-XR gear oil. Do not use 90W oil. You can order a service manual from which I would recommend if you plan to do your own service and maintenance. "There is never just one thing wrong with a boat"; -- Travis McGee, main character in a book series by John D. McDonald *************** The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.
